Mood: Confused

So I had never heard of the game Pokemon Channel, But Luis had sent me a bunch of openings to Pokemon games, the intro to "Pokemon Channel" being one of them. Now, there are a few things I'd like to talk about here, but first, watch the video.

All done?
Alright.
So... After having only played the games for many years, and having not heard a Pokemon say it's actual NAME in many many months, I found myself almost laughing at how absolutely RETARDED all of them sound while saying their own names. Did you hear Magby, I mean, did you really, REALLY hear him? Also - Did you notice that the narrator is reading the text as though it's a bedtime story for toddlers? Now I'm sure we all remember the narrator from the first Pokemon series. I liked his voice, and his style of narration. I never had a problem with the way he delivered the lines. Maybe I was a big nerd for liking Pokemon well into middle-school but I never felt that it was geared at young kids.

This narrator, however, seems to be purposefully reading the lines as though the only people dumb enough to watch it, would be little kids. I have always loved, and will always love Pokemon games and cartoons, but watching this made me almost ashamed. If someone saw you watching this, they would wonder why you're watching childrens programming! (not that it is important, I still watch Babar and The busy world of Richard Scarry.) I wonder sometimes, who actually DID buy that game? Since it totally went under the radar for me. What year was it released? Who was the target audience? Did it sell well?

I will say though, I love the music (apart from that singing in the opening, blech!) And the backgrounds are beautiful. But this is something that is pretty common in most anime. It has beautiful pictures, but can't hold it's own as an animation. Now you may be saying "Well jeeze, Dani, what does any of this matter? It's just a stupid video game!"

Well my friends, the answer to that is - I have no life.

Thanks for tuning in, guys!
~Danielle
